Hey! I'm Rafael Fernandes, a fifth-year PhD student in mathematics at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
My research interests are Symplectic Geometry and Hamiltonian Dynamics; at the moment, I am counting interesting things. My advisor is Viktor Ginzburg. I am passionate about teaching, research and communicating mathematics to a general audience. I am committed to promoting inclusivity, diversity, and justice in the mathematics community.
I will be on the job market this coming fall, and I am looking for postdoctoral positions in symplectic dynamics, symplectic topology, and applications of dynamics to other fields. I am particularly interested in environments that encourage collaboration across areas such as dynamical systems, geometry, topology, mathematical physics, topological data science, and AI. I am also interested in exciting research opportunities in industry, especially those involving data science, machine learning, optimization, or the application of advanced mathematical methods to real-world problems.
Before coming to UC Santa Cruz I received my M.S. in Mathematics from IMPA under Milton Jara's supervision, and my B.S. in Mathematics from UFES (Federal University of Espirito Santo), both in Brazil.
